Welcome to Daddyland

Hello. Welcome to my new blog. I have tried to blog many times and most of the time it ends up unsuccessful. Most of the time I find myself a few weeks into it and then I ask myself the inevitable question, “Who cares?”. To be honest I don’t expect this to be much different, except I have a little more free time now so I hope to write about some things that are on my mind as well as document memories I want to save.

I recently got a new DSLR camera and I think this will be my new hobby. I also have two kids at home, I love to cook, and I have a beautiful pregnant wife - so I plan to photograph these things, hopefully on a consistent basis, and hopefully with improving artfulness and photo quality. I figured a blog might be a good place to share those memories and photos.

So that is what this blog is. Also, it’s a food blog. I love to cook, I love to eat. I hate to diet and I hate to exercise - but it has become a part of my life that I sometimes question could be borderline unhealthy. I am obsessed with diet and exercise (whether or not it works is still up for debate) and I recently found this program (MacJournal) that I am uploading to my blog with. So, I’m keeping track of all my food and exercise, and I might just decide to make it public. That’s what the first few posts on this blog are, and I may make another blog just dedicated to that, or I may post them here, so far I’m undecided.

So I will leave you with a final thought that also will be a recurring theme here. I think I’m getting older and maturing. I realized this one day when we pulled up next to a van that was nice and new clean. Normally when I pull up next to a Mercedes or a Cadillac I say, “Wow, I love that car!” but on this particular day I actually found myself saying, “Wow, that’s such a nice van!” What followed was a lot of introspection that is still continuing to this day.

I had a similar moment the other day. My new hobby has becoming gardening & maintaing our lawn. I suppose this is part of home ownership, but I am taking my lawn a little seriously. I bought a lawn mower and some garden tools and I really look forward to making our front and back yards beautiful. I want curb appeal. I want clean lines and healthy grass. I want beautiful flowerbeds and rich soil. As I was laying in bed the other night trying to fall asleep, I was thinking about what I might do with the lawn tomorrow. And future projects I want to do. And this is when it hit me...I’m getting older.
